Sutton Foster kicks off MIAC Live season Sept. 21

sutton fosterThe 糖心Vlog破解版 Institute for Arts & Culture kicks off its 2023-24 MIAC Live season on Thursday, Sept. 21, with two-time Tony Award-winning singer, actress, and dancer Sutton Foster, who will perform selections from the American songbook, originals, and Broadway classics.

Foster was most recently seen on the Broadway stage as Marian Paroo in the Broadway revival of 鈥淭he Music Man,鈥 opposite Hugh Jackman. Her performance earned her a seventh Tony nomination as well as the coveted 2022 Drama League Distinguished Performance Award.聽

Last fall, Foster released her memoir, 鈥淗ooked: How Crafting Saved My Life.鈥 The page-turner is composed of funny and intimate stories and reflections about how crafting has kept her sane while navigating the highs and lows of family, love, and show business.

In the summer of 2021, Foster reprised one of her most notable roles, Reno Sweeney in 鈥淎nything Goes,鈥 at the Barbican Theatre in London, earning an Oliver Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. A cinematic version of the show had a subsequent limited release in US and Australia theaters. Her original performance in the Roundabout Theatre Company鈥檚 revival at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre earned her a 2011 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

On television, Foster led the critically acclaimed TV Land series 鈥淵ounger.鈥 Created by "Sex and the City's" Darren Star and styled by the iconic Pat Field, the seventh and final season premiered in April 2021, making it the longest-running original series in TV Land history.

Foster starred as The Baker鈥檚 Wife in the Hollywood Bowl鈥檚 sold-out summer 2019 production of 鈥淚nto the Woods.鈥 Previously, she appeared in the title role of the New Group鈥檚 50th anniversary revival of 鈥淪weet Charity鈥 and in the Broadway revival of Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley鈥檚 鈥淰iolet.鈥 Foster also appeared on stage as Queenie in New York City Center Encores! Off-Center production of 鈥淭he Wild Party鈥 in July 2015.

Under the direction of Michael Mayer, Foster starred as Millie Dillmount in the 2002 Broadway production of 鈥淭horoughly Modern Millie鈥 at the Marquis Theatre. Originating the role, she established herself as one of the greatest talents in the industry and earned her first Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. Foster has originated numerous roles, including Princess Fiona in Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire鈥檚 鈥淪hrek The Musical鈥 at The Broadway Theatre, as well as Inga in Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan鈥檚 鈥淵oung Frankenstein鈥 at Foxwoods Theatre.

Foster鈥檚 performance as Janet Van De Graaff in Casey Nicholaw鈥檚 鈥淭he Drowsy Chaperone鈥 at the Marquis Theatre in 2006 earned her Tony Award, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, and Ovation Award nominations. Among her other theatre credits are 鈥淟es Miserables,鈥 鈥淭he Scarlet Pimpernel,鈥 鈥淎nnie,鈥 and 鈥淕rease.鈥 In addition, Foster made her Off-Broadway debut as Prudence in Paul Weitz's comedy 鈥淭rust,鈥 which played at Second Stage Theatre and starred Zach Braff, Bobby Cannavale, and Ari Graynor.

Foster starred as Michelle Simms in Amy Sherman-Palladino鈥檚 beloved ABC Family series 鈥淏unheads.鈥 She reunited with Sherman-Palladino for a guest starring role in the Netflix revival, 鈥淕ilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.鈥 Foster鈥檚 additional on-screen credits include ABC鈥檚 鈥淎 Million Little Things,鈥 CBS鈥檚 鈥淚nstinct,鈥 HBO鈥檚 鈥淔light of the Conchords,鈥 USA Network鈥檚 鈥淩oyal Pains,鈥 NBC鈥檚 鈥淟aw & Order: SUV,鈥 and 鈥淓lementary,鈥 and guest appearances on the well-known children鈥檚 series 鈥淛ohnny and the Sprites鈥 and PBS鈥檚 鈥淪esame Street.鈥 In 2014, Foster made her feature film debut in Phil Alden Robinson鈥檚 鈥淭he Angriest Man in Brooklyn,鈥 and she appeared as Kerry in James Roday鈥檚 Halloween American comedy horror film 鈥淕ravy.鈥

As a solo artist, Foster has toured the country with her hit solo concert, which features songs from her debut solo album 鈥淲ish鈥 as well as her follow-up album, 鈥淎n Evening with Sutton Foster: Live at the Cafe Carlyle.鈥 She has also graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's, Lincoln Center鈥檚 American Songbook Series, and many others. Foster released her third solo album, 鈥淭ake Me to the World,鈥 through Ghostlight Deluxe on June 1, 2018.

Foster holds an honorary doctorate from Ball State University, where she also teaches.
